Лето 1927 Милый Георгий.
Письмо твое получил- Пиши- Очень рад что снова мы друг другу пишем. Надеюсь что ты издашь всю твою эпопею- а я буду получать том за томом читать и радоваться за тебя. А мое здоровье лучше, живу на бахчах, ем арбузы- надеюсь что если так дело пойдет то легкие мои окрепнут- воздух степной чистый. Мокроты меньше,- а в городе вот скверно- пыль, духота и легкие кровь выделять начали- опять
надо ехать на бахчи,- сейчас то я приехал домой в город, надеюсь что легкие мои заживут теперь мне сорок лет не так уже опасно, лет через десять опасности думаю не будет никакой- а тем временем ребяты мои подрастут и ВУЗЫ кончат, ребята ничего способные. Тогда мне можно будет оставить город и поселиться где нибудь на Алтае- я и теперь мечтаю все об этом- пожить на пасеке где нибудь да вот ребята маленькие- учить надо- а
жить отдельно дорого- пасекой не проживешь. Мой друг П. Ал. Ерманов пасеку оставил- хотя и отличный пчеловод- и поступил инструктором по пчеловодству. Самое выгодное здесь пока- сеять арбузы. Из Семипалатинска их везти даже в Читу- вагонами. Семипалатинск пыльный народу много 56 тысяч. Строят дорогу на Пишкек- на Иртыше вода сейчас мелкая- для моста закладывают основания столбов. Лет через пять верпенские яблоки повезут к нам вагонами.
Я живу с братом Николаем- он здесь учителем- он живет внизу я с семьей вверху- дом общий. Работать по болезни я не могу- но кое что еще по изученного края делаю- и в Музее и в Географическом Отделе. Свои коллекции я переслал в Ленинград в Академию Наук и в Русский Музей- археологию и этнографию. Нынче здесь из Ленинграда много научных работников- изучают Казакстан от Академии Наук. И меня дома все лето штаб квартира- по этнографии я советую нашим ученым прочитать
“Чураевых” быт описан тобой отлично- к сожалению у нас в библиотеке в Геогр. отделе твоих книг нет. Ник. Яков. Копшин просил меня написать тебе: не найдешь ли ты возможности послать нам в библиотеку Семип. Геогр. Отдела свои произведения. Нынче летом на Бухтарму от Русского Музея проехала Гришкова я посоветовал ей проехать в Белуга и Фыкалку- интересно что она соберет, обратно будет здесь числа 15 Сентября.
Вообще изучение нашего края поставлено очень хорошо. Самые видные ученые изучают Казакстан. Ну а любители кто чем интересуется. Нет ли у тебя знакомых [?] – я с удовольствием вступил бы в переписку- Николай интересуется киргизким орнаментом- и старинной живописью м. б. у тебя есть среди знакомых такие же люди- сообщи- интересно бы завязать переписку. I received your letter—write—I am very glad that we are writing to each other again. I hope that you publish your entire epic—and I will receive one volume after another and be glad for you. And my health is better, I live in the melon fields and eat watermelons—I hope that if the affairs go this way then my lungs will become stronger—the steppe air is clean. There is less humidity—and in the city it is lousy—dust, humidity and my lungs began to secrete blood—
I need to go to the melon fields again,—right now I came home to the city, I hope that my lungs will heal now I am forty years old it is not dangerous. In 10 years there will not be any danger—and in that time my boys will grow up and finish VUZes, the boys are skilled. Then I will be able to leave the city and settle somewhere in the Altay. I am now dreaming about it—to live on an apiary somewhere, but here the boys are small—I need to teach them,
and to live separately is expensive, with an apiary one can’t survive. My friend P. Al. Ermanov left the apiary—even though he was an excellent beekeeper—and became an instructor in beekeeping. The most profitable now is to plant watermelons. To bring them from Semipalatinsk, even to Chita—by the wagons. Semipalatinsk is dusty a lot of people 56 thousand. They are building a road to Pishpek. On Irtysh the water right now is low. They are laying foundation columns for a bridge. In about 5 years Verpensky apples will be brought here to us by the wagons.
I live with brother Nikolay—he is a teacher here. He lives downstairs and I with my family upstairs—the house is shared. I can’t work because of the illness—but I still do something out of the learned studies, in the museum and in the Geography Department. I sent my collections to Leningrad to the Academy of Sciences and to the Russian Museum—archaeology and ethnography. Nowadays there many scientific workers here from Leningrad—they are studying Kazakhstan from the Academy of Sciences. The entire summer there was a headquarters apartment in my house—on ethnography I recommend our scientists to read
about the Churaev lifestyle which is described perfectly by you—unfortunately there are no books by you in our library at the Geog. Department. Nik.Yakov. Kopshin asked me to write you: won’t you find an opportunity to send us to the library of Semip. Geog. Department your writing. Now this summer Grishkova came to Bukhtarma from the Russian Museum I recommended her to go to Beluga and Fykalka—it is interesting what she will gather, she will be back here around the 15th of September.
Overall the study of our region is set very well. The most prominent scientists are studying Kazakhstan. Well amateurs have their own interests. Do you have any acquainted [?]—with big pleasure I would begin a correspondence—Nikolay is interested in Kyrgyz ornaments—and ancient painting maybe you have some people like that among your acquaintances—tell me—it would be interesting to begin a correspondence.
